Watkins Helps Fullerton Gain a 10-7 Victory Over Arizona
Designated hitter Keith Watkins homered, tripled and stole home Thursday to lead Cal State Fullerton to a 10-7 nonconference baseball victory over Arizona in the first of a three-game series at Tucson.
The Titans improved to 5-1. The Wildcats are 7-4.
Watkins, who led off the game with his first home run of the year, sparked a six-run Fullerton second inning with a two-run triple and a steal of home. First baseman Dann Howitt capped the inning with a two-run double.
Catcher John Eccles also had a big day for the Titans. He doubled twice and hit his third home run of the year.
Mike Harkey (1-1) got the win for the Titans. He pitched 7 innings, allowing three earned runs and 12 hits. Dave Serrano earned his first save.
In other nonconference baseball action:
Chapman 5, Arizona State 4--Ivan Camacho hit a home run over the left-center field fence to leadoff the seventh inning and gave the Panthers the victory in Packard Stadium at Tempe.
The loss was the first for the Sun Devils (8-3) at home this season. The Panthers (2-3) got a complete game from Steve Dunn (1-1), who struck out eight and scattered nine hits.
Jeff Morrison hit a two-run home run in the fifth for Chapman, his second home run in as many days.
