Hollywood BPW to Celebrate 65th Anniversary at Luncheon

The Hollywood Business and Professional Women will celebrate the organization’s 65th anniversary at a noon luncheon on Feb. 15 at the Assistance League of Southern California’s Tearoom, 1370 St. Andrew’s Place.

The date also commemorates the birthday of suffragist Susan B. Anthony, and the chapter will present its third annual Susan B. Anthony Awards to six Hollywood women honorees who have “achieved in their profession and presented a positive image for Hollywood” and “exemplify the characteristics of Miss Anthony.”

The honorees will be: in business, Nina Blanchard for her model agency; in communication, actress and entertainer Lucille Ball; cultural, Joan Boyett of the Music Center; education, Excetta Cotton, a Hollywood High School teacher; public service, community activist Norma Rauch; and in youth service, Dr. Lois Lee of Children of the Night, a Hollywood agency that serves runaway young people.

“Failure is Impossible” will be the theme of the event, which is being coordinated by Marjory Hopper, past president of the Los Angeles Sunset District of the Business and Professional Women, and members of the Hollywood BPW.

Bill Welsh, television personality and president of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, will be the speaker.
