Norwalk : Block Revitalization

Share

The City Council has approved a $1-million revitalization for a one-block area of Front Street between San Antonio Drive and Clarkdale Avenue.

Five businesses that face Front Street will be rebuilt to face Firestone Boulevard, which is north of Front Street. Customers would then be able to enter from Firestone and park in an expanded parking lot, said Don Rouly, city planning and development director. The one-block section of Firestone dates back at least 40 years, and business in the area has declined mainly because of a lack of parking and visibility, Rouly said.

The work is scheduled to be completed this fall, with money coming from the city’s Community Development Block Grant, a federal program under the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The area currently houses the Cerritos Valley Bank, a model train club, a bicycle distributor, a record store and a print shop.
