Low clouds may briefly block early-morning sunshine, but otherwise blue skies are expected for the weekend while storms bypass San Diego County and a warming trend begins.

Clear skies are welcome after 10 days of rain so far this month--four more than normal for February. The rainfall total for the month is well above the norm, with 2.59 inches recorded at Lindbergh Field in a month that usually receives 1.43 inches of rain.

In contrast to last weekend’s rainy weather, this weekend should be sunny and warm, with temperatures in the 70s along the coast and inland, in the 50s at the mountains and in the 70s and 80s in the deserts.

According to National Weather Service forecaster Ray Robben, a high-pressure system building off the coast Thursday should protect the county from approaching storms at least through the weekend and probably into early next week.

The air should begin to dry out today and the clouds evaporate. The humidity, which has been close to 100% at night, should drop to about 75% by Saturday, and afternoon humidity should return to a comfortable 50% to 60% through the weekend.

Aside from morning fog and some variable high clouds, skies will be sunny, Robben said. A warming trend forecast to begin today will boost temperatures at the coast into the low 70s by Saturday and into the upper 70s inland.

No significant winds are expected, Robben said, and the surf should be 3 to 4 feet. Sea breezes are expected at 12 to 18 m.p.h. from the west to southwest.

Nighttime lows ranging from 46 to 54 degrees are expected along the coast and in the 40s inland. Mountain lows should range from 36 to 45 degrees and desert lows are expected to be in the 50s.
