Rancho Santiago Blanks El Camino in Softball, 5-0

Sophomores Chris Makimoto and Kim Martin combined on a one-hitter Thursday to lead the Rancho Santiago softball team to a 5-0 win over El Camino at Santa Ana.
Makimoto (1-0) went the first six innings and allowed the hit. Martin pitched the seventh.
Freshman third baseman Christy Alvarez singled in two runs in the Dons’ three-run fifth inning. Lee Bladow drove in one run and scored two more for defending state champion Rancho Santiago (3-0).
The Dons took the lead in the third when they scored two unearned runs thanks to two El Camino throwing errors.
Missy Herrera took the loss for the Warriors. The teams meet again today at El Camino.
