Sweetwater’s Rodgers Remains Undecided on College Choice

Share

After a week of rumors, Sweetwater High School running back Terry Rodgers remains undecided as to where he will play college football.

Rodgers told The Times Friday that he still was considering Nebraska, USC and Texas but was not leaning toward any one of the three. He said he hoped to make a decision sometime next week.

Earlier in the week, it had been reported Rodgers would sign a letter of intent with Nebraska. Later, he decided to delay his decision after conferring with his father, Johnny Rodgers, who won the Heisman Trophy while playing for Nebraska in 1972.

Terry Rodgers, The Times’ back of the year last season, is considered one of the state’s top prospects.

Rodgers is the county’s all-time leading rusher with 3,764 yards and led Sweetwater to back-to-back San Diego Section 3-A championships in 1983 and ’84. The Red Devils were 37-1 in his three years there and established a county-record 36-game winning streak.
