Former baseball star Denny McLain reportedly is being punished with solitary confinement at the federal penitentiary in Atlanta because authorities suspect he told lawyers that the prison bought pornographic books and tapes.
McLain, who won 31 games in 1968 to lead the Detroit Tigers to a World Series title, was sentenced to 23 years in prison last year after his conviction for cocaine possession and three related charges.
Two independent sources, who asked not to be named, said McLain was put in solitary for telling lawyers that the prison used library money to buy the book “Erotic Aerobics” and videotapes with such titles as “Little Miss Innocence.”
Attorneys pressing a federal lawsuit against the prison, accusing it of having inhuman living conditions, made allegations about the purchases last week.
