Four Agencies to Receive $294,001 for Child-Care Service
The state has allocated $294,001 to four Westside agencies to establish child-care services for latchkey children left unsupervised while their parents work.
The money, part of $16 million allocated by the Legislature for day-care facilities throughout the state, will be disbursed by the California Department of Education, Child Development Division.
The Westside agencies approved for funding are the Neighborhood Youth Assn., $57,625; the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District, $100,000; the Culver City Unified School District, $100,000, and the Culver-Palms YMCA, $36,376.
Stan Finn, program analyst for the Child Development Division, said the money will provide programs for one year.
The agencies will be offered contracts to provide child care through June 30, 1987.
Finn said that some agencies received less than they requested and may have to scale down their programs to fit revised budgets.
The Jeffrey Foundation in Mar Vista, which helps handicapped children, also had requested funds but failed to receive approval. The foundation may appeal the decision.
