College Basketball Roundup : Jacksonville and UAB Gain Sun Belt Final

Michael Charles scored five consecutive points to give Alabama-Birmingham a six-point lead with six minutes left and the Blazers went on to defeat Western Kentucky, 57-45, in the semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference basketball tournament Friday night at Birmingham, Ala.

Alabama-Birmingham, the host team which has won all three previous Sun Belt tournaments in Birmingham, takes 24-9 record into tonight’s final against Jacksonville a 67-61 upset winner over top-seeded Old Dominion.

Willie McDuffie converted a three-point play with less than two minutes left to give the Dolphins of Jacksonville (20-9) a victory over regular-season champion Monarchs (22-7).

Jacksonville held a 57-55 lead when McDuffie gave the Dolphins a five-point advantage that ODU was never able to overcome.

Brown 88, Harvard 78--Center Jim Turner got 19 of his game-high 30 points in the first half at Cambridge, Mass., as the Bruins defeated the Crimson to gain a tie for first place in the Ivy League.

Brown shares first with Cornell, which lost to Pennsylvania, 77-71.
