College Tennis Roundup : Shorthanded UC Irvine Men Upset Previously Unbeaten ASU, 5-4
Despite going without three injured players, the UC Irvine men’s tennis team upset previously undefeated Arizona State, 5-4, in a nonconference match at Friday in Phoenix.
The Anteaters won by taking the last match of the day, men’s No. 2 doubles. Senior Bruce Man Son Hing and freshman Mark Kaplan teammed to beat Mike Colloca and Jeff Karp, 7-5, 2-6, 6-3. UCI improved to 7-2. Arizona State fell to 9-1.
In women’s action:
UC Santa Barbara 8, UC Irvine 1--Three of the Anteaters’ top six players missed the match at Irvine because of the flu. The Gauchos were led by No. 1 singles player Mette Frank, who defeated Lola Trenwith, 6-4, 6-2.
