Orange County Prep Baseball : Reddington Leads Esperanza Over Edison, 6-1

Esperanza High School shortstop Tom Reddington hit two two-run home runs and tripled Friday to lead the Aztecs to a 6-1 win over Edison in a second-round game of the Loara Tournament at Edison.

Reddington’s four RBIs gave him nine in two games.

Senior left-hander Steve Halweg pitched the first five innings and earned the win. He allowed four hits, struck out three and walked two. Esperanza, which plays El Dorado Wednesday in a quarterfinal game, improved its record to 2-0. Edison is 2-1.

In other Loara Tournament championship-round action:

El Dorado 10, John W. North 0--Jeff Petredes pitched a three-hitter to lead the Golden Hawks (2-0) over the Huskies in a second-round game at El Dorado. Petredes, a right-hander, struck out eight and didn’t allow a walk.

Brett Boone had a single, double and three RBIs and Scott Holcomb had a home run, single and two RBIs for El Dorado.

Katella 7, Fountain Valley 4--Junior right fielder Jeff Repoz hit a grand slam as the Knights beat the Barons at Fountain Valley. Repoz was 3 for 4 with four RBIs and scored twice.

Loara 5, Marina 0--Rich Milo and Andy Jannet combined for a three-hitter to lead the Saxons. Sal Capraro doubled in a run in the first inning and Carlos Vargas tripled in two in the sixth. Vargas scored when he attempted to steal home and the Marina pitcher balked.

Los Alamitos 5, Huntington Beach 4--Senior left-hander Brooks Peters (1-0) pitched five innings to earn the win and Garry Loe worked the last two for his first save as the Griffins (2-0) won at Los Alamitos. Kevin Jeanotte was 2 for 2 with two RBIs and scored a run. Robbie Katzaroff extended his hitting streak to 29 games.

Anaheim 7, Laguna Hills 0--Rudy Gonzales pitched a three-hitter as the Colonists won at Laguna Hills. Ronnie Pluma was 3 for 4 with an RBI and teammate Mike Parker was 2 for 3 with an RBI.

Servite 5, El Toro 4--Jim Sanford walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Friars won at Servite. Todd Cook (1-0) got the win.

In Loara Tournament consolation round action:

Irvine 4, Los Amigos 1--Eddie Lipley limited the Lobos to three hits and the Vaqueros scored three unearned runs. Mike Moceri had a single and a double for Irvine.

Cypress 12, Downey 7 (six innings, darkness)--After Charger starter Kevin Bumgarner gave up six runs on five hits without getting an out in the first inning, reliever John Elias limited the Vikings to three hits a one run the rest of the way at Cypress.

Pacifica 6, Newport Harbor 1--Toby Christopher allowed only one hit, a fourth-inning home run to Pat Maynard, as the Mariners (1-1) beat the Sailors (0-2).

Sunny Hills 8, San Clemente 1--David Wackerman pitched a five-hitter and Mike McGuire was 3 for 3 with a triple as the Lancers (1-1) beat the Tritons (0-2) at Boysen Park.

Troy 6, Villa Park 0--The Warriors (1-1) defeated the Spartans (0-2) in Anaheim’s Glover Stadium.

Magnolia 2, Ocean View 1--Mike Tietge singled up the middle to drive in Kirk Hainline with the winning run in the sixth inning at Glover Stadium.

La Quinta 19, Kennedy 3--James Marquez went 3 for 3, drove in three runs and scored twice to help the Aztecs (1-1) in a night game at Boysen Park. In Glendora Tournament action:

Sonora 8, Ganesha 7--Mitch Kaylor hit two two-run home runs to lead the Raiders (1-0) to a first-round win.
