Serious About Books?

You have written quite poignantly about the problem of deciding how much of your scarce space, if any, to give any particular book for review, and I think I appreciate your problem. Still, I was angered--yes, I have deliberately chosen that verb, angered --to see the latest writings of Lawrence Clark Powell not only reviewed rather late but also relegated to one paragraph of the Feb. 2 “Title Page” morgue and assigned to a reviewer who clearly does not know Mr. Powell’s significance.

I do wonder if your newspaper is serious about your Book Review. Recently your paper ran some articles suggesting that some of your editorial hierarchy think it should be like that in the Washington Post, a high school-level effort quite comparable to that in the Register, which at least has the excuse of limited funds rather than limited mentality and knowledge.
