Santa Ana : Housing Project Wins City Council Approval
- Share via
The construction or rehabilitation of six homes will be undertaken by the Civic Center Barrio Housing Corp. as a result of an agreement approved by the City Council, which allocated $240,000 in federal funds.
The corporation, which provides housing for low- and moderate-income residents, has selected Flower Park, a neighborhood east of Bristol Street between Civic Center Drive and 1st Street, for the project. The city will provide staff assistance for purchase and development of the homes, and the corporation will handle construction, rehabilitation, and renting or selling of the units.
The city’s agreement with the organization calls for additional funding for another 14 homes over three years if the initial program is successful. A report prepared by Phil Freeland, executive director of community development and housing, says that the program is part of an effort to bring about “a major turnaround of the neighborhood.”
