Honeycutt Pitches Exhibition Opener

Pitching coach Ron Perranoski has set his rotation for the Dodgers’ first four exhibition games. Rick Honeycutt will pitch Saturday’s opener against Houston at Kissimmee. On Sunday, Fernando Valenzuela will face the Astros here in a game that will be televised to Los Angeles.

Orel Hershiser will pitch Monday against Boston here, and Bob Welch will go Tuesday against Cincinnati at Tampa.

Jerry Reuss, who has worked indoors the last four days because of an arthritic condition in his knees, threw on the side Tuesday and also walked the “Hill.” Reuss said he should be able to resume regular work in a few days. . . . Mike Watters, a non-roster second baseman who was voted the team’s most improved player in last fall’s instructional league, will undergo arthroscopic surgery today to remove bone chips from his right elbow. Dodger trainer Bill Buhler also will undergo arthroscopy to repair torn cartilage in his left knee.
