Mookie Wilson, center fielder for the New York Mets, was struck in the right eye by a baseball and is expected to miss the start of the season.
Wilson, participating in a base-running drill, was hit by a ball thrown by shortstop Rafael Santana.
Dr. John Olichney, a member of the Met medical staff, said that glasses worn by Wilson shattered on impact. Wilson suffered cuts above the right eye, and blood was detected behind the eyeball. It was not known whether there was any glass in the eye.
