Fairfield University’s Pat Yerina, a senior from Thousand Oaks, was a second-team All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference selection. Yerina led the conference in field-goal percentage (.560), was second in rebounding (8.2) and sixth in scoring (15.0) for the MAAC champions.

Cal State Northridge swimmer Katy McCarthy has qualified for the NCAA Division II swimming and diving championships March 12-15 at Orlando, Fla.

McCarthy is entered in five events: the 100, 200 and 500 freestyles, and the 200 and 400 individual medleys. CSUN will be sending 12 women to Florida, 10 swimmers and two divers.

Howard Hooper of Woodland Hills was chosen Rookie of the Year for 1985 by the Top Gas West drag racing association. He finished third in the overall point standings.

Cary Caulfied, an All-Southern Section linebacker from Canyon High, has accepted an appointment to West Point. Caulfied (6-0, 205) was a starting inside linebacker for the Cowboys, who this season won their third consecutive Southern Section Northwestern Conference title.

Canyon Coach Harry Welch also said that defensive lineman Dio Shipp has been offered a scholarship to play football at Eastern Oregon.
