About 750 people were allowed to return to the homes they were forced to evacuate when a natural gas line ruptured in a San Fernando Valley neighborhood. Southern California Gas Co. District Manager Kenneth B. Worthem said road repaving may have been responsible for the leak, which apparently occurred at the point where a 2-inch valve connects to the 36-inch main gas line near the corner of Burbank Boulevard and Lindley Avenue in Tarzana. Residents of the area were sent to Reseda High School, where many remained for the 10 hours it took to locate the leak and shut off the gas.
