Orange : Plan for High-Rise Near Anaheim Stadium OKd

City Council members Tuesday night unanimously approved a conceptual plan for a $200-million high-rise office and commercial complex near Anaheim Stadium.

Plans for the project call for construction of two 24-story office towers, two six-level parking structures and two restaurants on the 12.5-acre site. The Koll Co., project developers, will submit precise architectural plans later this year.

The triangular site is bounded by State College Boulevard, Orangewood Avenue and Hollister Street. Koll has already acquired the 50 residential lots within the site.

Mike Lewis, vice president of development for Koll, said the project will be built in two phases, with the first to be completed by 1988 and the second by 1990.

Bert K. Yamasaki, the city’s director of development, said: “It’s a significant development because it will add to the economic base of the city.”.

He added that the complex will have a “tremendous spinoff effect of spending” in the city but said that exact figures will not be estimated until project plans are completed.

Yamasaki said the complex is part of the city’s plans for development within the Southwest Redevelopment Project Area south of Anaheim Stadium and west of the Santa Ana River. The parcel of land was annexed from the county last June.
