Garza’s Comeback Continues Against Diaz in 1st Professional Fight in Palm Springs in 10 Years

Jaime Garza, the fifth-ranked super bantamweight contender by the World Boxing Council, will face Jorge Diaz in a 10-round bout on April 5 at the Palm Springs Hilton Riviera Hotel, it was announced Wednesday.

It will be the first professional boxing action at Palm Springs in 10 years, according to promoter Don Fraser.

Garza, 24, of Pacoima, has a 42-1 record with 39 knockouts. He was WBC super bantamweight champion for a brief period in 1983 before being knocked out by Juan Meza in his first title defense.

Diaz, of Mexico City, has a 19-4-1 record.

It will be Garza’s second fight in two weeks. On March 25, Garza is scheduled to meet Lupe Martinez of Mexico in a 10-round super bantamweight bout at the Country Club in Reseda.
