Dist. Atty. Ira Reiner said today that he will not appeal the recent dismissal of a political payoff indictment against Paul Clarke, chief aide and fiance of Rep. Bobbi Fiedler (R-Northridge).

Clarke and Fiedler were indicted for allegedly offering state Sen. Ed Davis of Valencia a $100,000 campaign contribution to drop out of the the Republican U.S. Senate primary. Superior Court Judge Robert Altman dismissed the case against Clarke, ruling that even if Clarke had made the offer, it would not be a crime under the statute he and Fiedler were accused of violating. Altman dropped the charge against Fiedler on grounds of insufficient evidence.
