CHP Spot Inspections of Automobiles Urged

Share

As I drive the freeways and surface streets here in California, I reflect upon the days when the Highway Patrol used to set up vehicle inspection’s randomly along our roadways. Some of the items inspected were the headlights, taillights and turn signals.

I wish the CHP still did this, because now I notice so many violations such as headlights out of adjustment and headlights and taillights that are burned out.

I personally drive a pickup truck with side mirrors that cannot be switched to “day/night” as a rear-view mirror can be, subsequently these poorly adjusted beams seem to be intensified and blinding in their effect on me.

I’ve also noticed that many people coming at me with high beams on, when blinked down, seem to have only one working headlight. Many others are just out of adjustment or the vehicle is so jacked up for off-road use that the beams are never corrected for street driving.
