South County : Bergeson Seeks Radar Use on Ortega Highway

Share

State Sen. Marian Bergeson (R-Newport Beach) introduced a resolution last week to authorize the California Highway Patrol to use radar equipment in an effort to curb speeding on the Ortega Highway.

The state-owned highway, scene of numerous traffic accidents, stretches from San Juan Capistrano through the foothills to southwest Riverside County.

In introducing the resolution, Bergeson cited CHP statistics that the actual accident rate for the Ortega Highway is 146% higher than the statewide average for similar highways.

The Board of Supervisors had urged the state to allow use of radar on the Orange County portion of the Ortega Highway in an effort to lower the accident rate.
