General Motors Corp. today recalled 136,000 compact 1985-model N-cars for replacement of throttle-return springs that could fail and prevent the engine from slowing down.

The N-cars are the Pontiac Grand Am, Buick Somerset and Oldsmobile Calais. GM said failure of the springs could prevent the driver from slowing the engine. “However, the brakes would remain operational and the vehicle could be brought to a safe stop,” GM said.
