La Mirada : Intersection Signal Urged
The Public Safety Commission has sent a recommendation to the City Council that a signal be installed at Cordova Road and Imperial Highway.
After an elderly couple were killed in late January while trying to turn left from Cordova onto Imperial, the council hired a private engineering firm, Willdan and Associates, to study the T-intersection. Based on traffic flow and the fact that a large number of senior citizens use the intersection, the firm recommended that the city install a signal. There are three churches and a senior citizen center within a block of the intersection, located in a residential area.
It is now up to the City Council to accept or reject the commission’s recommendation for a signal, which could cost $100,000.
