Cerritos : Taiwan Sister City Sought
The City Council has endorsed a plan to approach the Taiwanese city of Pan-Chao to become Cerritos’ first sister city. Led by Councilman Daniel Wong, a private foundation made up of city residents asked the council to bless its efforts to find a sister city.
Pan-Chao, in the county of Taipei, has a population of 480,000. It already has one sister city in the United States--Addison, Texas. Pan-Chao was suggested by Wong and foundation President Frank Lee. The council agreed to send a letter to leaders of Pan-Chao as a formal offer to become sister cities.
Wong, chairman of the Sister City Foundation’s board of directors, predicted that Pan-Chao will be the first of several sister cities for Cerritos. Eventually, Wong said, he hopes Cerritos and Pan-Chao will initiate cultural and civic exchanges to learn more about each other.
