David Shanbrom, a former Times’ first-team All-County football player from Foothill High School, was killed in an automobile accident on the 210 Freeway near Chino Tuesday evening. He was 27.

Shanbrom, a 1976 graduate of Foothill who was employed as a district sales manager for Automated Data Processing in La Palma, died when a tractor-trailer jackknifed, crossed the center divider and hit Shanbrom’s car, said Shanbrom’s father, Dr. Edward Shanbrom.

Funeral services are pending, but Dr. Shanbrom said the Big Brothers of Orange County are collecting donations in David Shanbrom’s name.

Shanbrom, who lived in Tustin, also was a UCLA graduate.

Bob Osborne, Foothill assistant coach, who was head coach when Shanbrom was a junior, said Shanbrom was an ideal player and student.

“He played offensive guard and some defensive tackle,” Osborne said. “He was a great kid, a good scholar, and a good athlete.”
