West Germany’s Steffi Graf rallied from near-defeat and top-seeded Martina Navratilova shook off her mid-match blahs to advance into the semifinals of the $500,000 Virginia Slims Championships at New York.

Graf, seeded third in the 16-woman event, came from behind to oust Pam Shriver, 4-6, 7-6, 6-3, while Navratilova eliminated unseeded Bonnie Gadusek, 6-3, 6-4.

Australian giant-killer Broderick Dyke continued his winning ways, outlasting Czechoslovakia’s Libor Pimek, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, to reach the quarterfinals of the $315,000 Belgian Indoor Championships.

Dyke, ranked 109th in the world, had upset Wimbledon champion Boris Becker of West Germany on Wednesday.
