A Camarillo man who violated his probation in 1982 when he fled Ventura County after a conviction for selling fraudulent gold and silver investments has been arrested in Georgia on a fugitive warrant, authorities said.

Charles Thayer, 51, was arrested Thursday in Bartow County, Ga., and is being held without bail pending an arraignment early next week, Bartow County Sheriff’s Deputy Ron Coleman said.

Thayer was given a suspended prison term and placed on five years’ probation in 1982 for defrauding “numerous” Ventura County residents of about $425,000, Ventura County Sheriff’s Sgt. Larry Reynolds said.
