Princess Michiko Has Surgery

TOKYO —
Crown Princess Michiko underwent a hysterectomy today at the Imperial Palace Hospital, a spokesman for the Imperial Household Agency said.
The 51-year-old princess was hospitalized over the weekend for the operation to remove a myoma--a tumor composed of muscular tissue--from her uterus. The princess and Crown Prince Akihito, the first in line to succeed Emperor Hirohito, have two sons and one daughter.
