A motorist who rammed into a tractor-trailer on Interstate 5 early Monday was pulled from his burning auto by the truck driver and another motorist, police said.

Police said witnesses told them Christopher Lee Lacy, 21, of Laguna Hills was driving between 90 and 100 m.p.h. on the freeway just south of Lake Forest Drive when his station wagon collided at 3:10 a.m. with a truck driven by Jesus Garcia Sarinana and burst into flames.

Garcia and motorist Mark Droptiny, a Marine from Lemore, Calif., raced back to rescue Lester from his car, according to CHP Officer Ken Daily. Failing to get the car doors open, Droptiny knocked out a window, unlocked the door and pulled Lester out just before the automobile was engulfed by flames.

“He (Lester) wouldn’t have gotten out otherwise,” Daily added.

Lester was flown by helicopter to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, where he was treated for a broken right leg and facial cuts. Police are investigating the incident.
