El Cajon
An El Cajon mother pleaded guilty Wednesday to suffocating her two handicapped children in incidents five years apart. Deborah Sue Robles, 28, pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder.
The death of 4-year-old Matthew Robles on Sept. 1, 1980, was initially believed to be related to his medical condition, hydrocephalus. His brother, wheelchair-bound Johnny Robles, 5, died Jan. 19, 1985, and his death was originally attributed to a seizure caused by cerebral palsy.
Robles was charged after making incriminating statements to El Cajon police. She remains in the Las Colinas County Jail with bail set at $500,000.
San Diego Superior Court Judge Richard Huffman set sentencing for May 7. Deputy Dist. Atty. Stephen Anear said Robles could receive a life sentence.
