USC Trackmen Face Washington State, Three Others Today

Washington State, defending Pacific 10 champion and 1985 NCAA runner-up, will be among five men’s track teams competing today in USC’s Collegiate Relays at Cromwell Field.

Besides the Cougars and the host Trojans, other teams competing will be Arizona, Iowa and Drake.

Most of the track events scheduled are relays. The only individual track events are be the 100 meters, 110-meter high hurdles, steeplechase and 5,000 meters.

Field events will begin at 11 a.m. and track events at 12:15 p.m.

Occurring at the same time at Cromwell Field will be a dual meet between Long Beach City College and Pasadena City College.

At Stanford Friday, Wendy Brown of USC leaped 43 feet 4 inches to win the women’s triple jump with the best mark in the country this year on the opening day of the Stanford Track and Field Invitational.

Brown, a sophomore, holds the world’s best mark in the event, 44-6 3/4.

She edged Terri Turner of Texas, the former American record-holder, who jumped 43-3.
