Passenger, 19, Killed as Crash Ends Street Race
A 19-year-old Santa Monica man died early Saturday of injuries suffered when the speeding sports car in which he was a passenger collided head-on with two cars during a drag race on Sepulveda Boulevard in Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles police said.
Kyle Vredenburgh, was taken to UCLA Medical Center, where he died of severe head injuries, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Police were considering whether to arrest the car’s driver, Jeffrey Gilbert, 19, of Malibu, on suspicion of voluntary manslaughter in Vredenburgh’s death, Police Sgt. Orville Ridenour said.
Gilbert was treated for cuts and bruises at Sherman Oaks Community Hospital and released.
