Beauty Pageant Producer Dies

Leonard B. Stallcup, whose profession was dentistry but whose avocations led him into music management and beauty pageantry, is dead at age 86. He died March 24 in Good Samaritan Hospital.
A graduate of the USC Dental School, Stallcup practiced in Los Angeles from 1931 to 1942, entering the Army Medical Corps in World War II.
While still a practicing dentist, he began promoting musical groups, most prominently the Robert Armbruster Orchestra, one of the mainstay groups of early radio.
In 1958 he became the executive producer of California Beauty Pageant, sponsor of the contest that each year produced a Miss California for the Miss U.S.A.-Miss Universe competition. He also produced several other beauty pageants in the state.
A widower, he leaves a sister and brother. Donations in his name are being asked for Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children.
