More than 430 earthquake aftershocks rumbled barely noticed through the San Francisco Bay Area after a quake awoke residents Monday and caused minor damage. The largest of the aftershocks registered a 2.6 on the Richter scale, far less than Monday’s 5.3 quake, said Edna King, spokeswoman for the U.S. Geological Survey. More than 230 aftershocks were recorded by midday Monday. The small temblors were expected to continue for several weeks while diminishing in frequency.
