Amateur Wendy Macpherson, 18-year-old high school senior bowling in her first pro tournament, defeated top-seeded Lisa Wagner, 265-179, at Topeka, Kan., to become the youngest winner in the 16-year history of the $70,000 Bowling Proprietors Assn. of America Women’s U.S. Open.
Macpherson, of Walnut Creek, Calif., won five matches in a row to take the $12,000 first prize.
