Santa Ana : Contract on Rose Parade Float to Be Considered

Share

The Rose Parade is eight months away, but the city will take the first step today in preparation of its third entry in the New Year’s Day extravaganza.

C. E. Bent and Son Inc., a Pasadena-based float-building firm, designed Santa Ana’s entry in the 1985 and 1986 parades. The City Council will consider approval today of an $80,000 contract with the company to design and produce the 1987 float.

Both of the previous Bent floats garnered trophies for the city. In 1985, the city took the Theme Trophy for its “Spirit of America” design, and a humorously designed float called “Friday on the Freeway” took the Pioneer Trophy in this year’s parade.

The 1986 float was designed by Bent but constructed by volunteers, many who spent the night at the parade site on New Year’s Eve putting on the final touches. More than 35,000 volunteers put in more than 35,000 hours of effort working on “Friday on the Freeway,” according to a city report.
