Anaheim : Disneyland Honors Community Groups

Disneyland honored 63 county organizations with $250,000 in awards Wednesday during its annual Community Service Awards luncheon.

The county Performing Arts Center captured the top award of $50,000 for the success of its 2,500 volunteers in raising $8 million toward construction of the Center in Costa Mesa.

St. Joseph’s Ballet of Orange and Orangewood, the county facility in Orange for abused and neglected children, each won $12,500 for service to the community. St. Joseph’s Ballet was honored for exposing hundreds of disadvantaged county children to ballet performances and training.

Winners of $5,000 awards were Ana-Modjeska Players of Anaheim, Hi-Hopes Identity Discovery Foundation Inc. of Anaheim, American Writing Club for the Handicapped of Garden Grove, Western Youth Services Inc. of Fullerton, Women’s Transitional Living Center of Orange, Friends of the La Habra Children’s Museum, Orange County Food Distribution Center of Orange, Orange County chapter of the Freedom Foundation at Valley Forge in Santa Ana, Anaheim Senior Citizens Club Inc., and Saddleback Search and Rescue Team of Orange.

Fifty other groups divided $100,000 in awards presented during the luncheon at the Disneyland Hotel.
