Alexis Arguello has ended his quest for an unprecedented fourth professional boxing championship because of a heart problem.
“He has coronary artery disease,” said Arguello’s physician, Dr. Aaron Tuckler. “He told me he wouldn’t fight again.
“After his last fight, I did an electrocardiogram and discovered a problem with the coronary arteries. I gave him some other tests and they showed that he should not fight for at least several months.”
Arguello was scheduled to fight in a 10-round bout against Gene Hatcher, former WBA junior-welterweight champion, on June 5.
