Rodney Bradshaw of Saugus, Quincy Watts of Taft, and Melissa Sutton of Newbury Park turned in the most impressive performances by Valley area athletes in Saturday’s 19th annual Arcadia Invitational track and field meet at Arcadia High School.

Bradshaw was victorious in the 110-meter high hurdles in 14.47 and the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in a personal best of 38.30. In both races, he came from behind to win, running down Anthony Burnett (14.54) of Lynwood in the highs and C.J. Fisher (38.43) of Notre Dame in the intermediates.

Afterward, the beaming Bradshaw said he felt confident in both races.

“In the highs, I didn’t get a good start, however I just concentrated on the last five hurdles,” he said.

When speaking of the intermediates, he said,. “I saw C.J. coming off the turn and just went after him. I felt confident of catching him.”

Although Watts finished second to Ronald McCree of Madera in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes, he was impressive in each race.

In the 100, Westlake’s Gary Wellman was out of the blocks first with Watts and McCree also out quickly. McCree surged to the lead at the 60-meter mark with Watts close behind. The Taft sophomore finished strong but was unable to catch the defending state champion.

McCree won with a 10.75 time; Watts was second in 10.85. Wellman placed fourth in 10.98.

In the 200, the race between Watts and McCree was even closer with McCree winning in 21.37 and Watts finishing second in a personal best of 21.39.

Sutton out-kicked Tracey Williams of Mountain View in El Monte in the 3,200-meter run. The Newbury Park junior won with a personal best of 10:29.96. Williams was second in 10:30.58.
