Workers slowed the No. 2 reactor from 100% to 78% of capacity in order to repair a drain pump at Diablo Canyon atomic power plant, a spokeswoman said. The pump on the non-nuclear side of the plant near San Luis Obispo returns high-temperature water to the plant’s steam generators, said Roberta Bradley, spokeswoman for Pacific Gas & Electric Co. “At this power level the unit is generating approximately 770,000 kilowatts of electricity,” Bradley said. Meantime, Unit 1 continued to operate at 100% capacity, generating 1.1 million kilowatts since March 6.
