Bryan Erickson of the Kings scored three goals Sunday, leading the United States to a 7-2 victory over Poland in the World Hockey Championships at Moscow.

Erickson opened the scoring for the Americans against Poland at 7:45 of the first period, converting a pass from Aaron Broten of the New Jersey Devils.

At 17:06 of the second period, Erickson scored his second goal after a scramble in front of Polish goalie Frantiszek Kukla, the star of Saturday’s surprising 2-1 victory over Czechoslovakia.

Erickson got his third goal with only 10 seconds remaining in the final period, scoring while the Americans were short-handed.

Both the United States and Poland are now 1-1.

In other games, Sweden downed Canada, 4-1, the Soviet Union defeated Finland, 4-1, and West Germany upset defending champion Czechoslovakia, 4-3. The Soviet Union is now 2-0; the Finns, West Germans, Swedes and Canadians are 1-1, and the Czechs are 0-2.
