USFL Outlaws Sign a 30-Year Lease for Sun Devil Stadium
The Arizona Outlaws and Arizona State University Thursday announced completion of an agreement for lease of Sun Devil Stadium for the next 30 years.
Terms of the deal, announced jointly by Outlaw president Bill Tatham Jr. and ASU president J. Russell Nelson, were not announced.
However, one clause states that if the Outlaws move to another site, including any proposed downtown stadium, the club would pay the university $1 million for every year left on the contract.
At least seven of the Outlaws’ nine home games will be played on weekends when Arizona State is not playing at the stadium.
The Outlaws also obtained the right to build luxury “sky boxes” atop the east side of the stadium, which Tatham said he hopes to have completed by the beginning of the 1988 season. The “sky boxes” will be in addition to loge seating already in the stadium.
