Snobbery Keeps Away Golf’s Exciting Players
To anyone who watches golf, it has become increasingly apparent that the pro tour has degenerated into the charge of the men in the gray flannel suits. Despite Jack Nicklaus’ historic charge down the back nine at Augusta, there are no dominant players in the game today.
Enter Deane Beman, whose solution to the lack of excitement and charisma on the tour is a silly and snobbish rule that states that foreign players must play at least 15 tour events every year in this country. Under this arbitrary and sanctimonious bit of puffery, the tour will lose Seve Ballesteros (arguably the greatest player in the world today) and Bernhard Langer so that we golf fans can enjoy again the march of the wooden soldiers.
