A Huntington Beach man was killed early Saturday when a pickup truck driver ran a stop sign and struck his Volkswagen, police said.
Patrick Quist, 19, was thrown from his car at 17th Street and Walnut Avenue and died at the scene.
A 16-year-old passenger in his car, who has not been identified by police, was critically injured and taken to Long Beach Memorial Hospital.
Officer Robert Barr said the Volkswagen was traveling south on 17th Street, approaching Pacific Coast Highway, when it was hit by the pickup truck, which was heading west on Walnut.
The truck driver, Steven W. Sanders, 31, of Long Beach, was booked on suspicion of felony drunk driving and manslaughter, Barr said.
Sanders, who was not injured, was being held Saturday at City Jail on $25,000 bond.
