NBC, the oldest national television network, won its first prime-time TV season since 1954-55, according to a final tally released today by the A. C. Nielsen Co.

Led by its Thursday-night lineup of situation comedies, including the year’s No. 1 and 2 hits “The Cosby Show” and “Family Ties,” NBC took the 30-week 1985-86 season with an average rating of 17.5, or approximately 15 million households.

CBS came in a close second, losing by less than one rating point, while ABC finished a distant third, nearly three rating points behind the leader.
