No 2nd Murder Trial for British Cab Driver, Appeals Court Says
A British cab driver who walked out of court two years ago, after a Los Angeles Municipal Court judge dismissed six murder charges against him, cannot be charged with the slayings again, the 2nd District Court of Appeal has ruled.
The higher court held that Judge Nancy Brown correctly ruled that insufficient evidence existed to try Ashley Francois Paulle, 45, because his self-incriminating statements to police officers were made after Paulle elected to remain silent and because of promises that he could return to England if he changed his story.
Paulle had been accused of killing his next-door neighbors, Peter and Joan Davis of Granada Hills, and four members of the Sal Salomon family of Northridge in 1982.
