Chutists Leap From Empire State
Associated Press
NEW YORK —
Two men parachuted today from the Empire State Building and came down unharmed, police said. One escaped by catching a cab, taking his chute with him, but the other, Michael McCarthy, 25, of London, was captured when his chute caught on a traffic light.
The men jumped from the building at about 11:10 a.m., said Police Officer Janice Swinney. It was not known where in the building they jumped from. The Empire State is 102 stories high, 1,472 feet tall including the television tower.
