WEEKEND TV : ALL EYES MAY BE ON WOBEGON
Radio host and best-selling author Garrison Keillor brings his “Prairie Home Companion” to television for the first time this weekend, while “Hallmark Hall of Fame” presents a story about parents trying to lay their son in his final “Resting Place.”
“Prairie Home Companion” is the name of the weekly show that Keillor hosts on public radio. Keillor, who also wrote the book “Lake Wobegon Days,” says he won’t be doing anything differently for the TV version; cameras will simply be set up at the World Theater in St. Paul, Minn. to put pictures to the radio production. In fact, KCET Channel 28’s telecast of the program at 6 p.m. today will be simulcast on KCRW-FM (91.5) and KCPB-FM (91.1).

In an April 26 story on the simulcast of “Prairie Home Companion” over KCET Channel 28, KCRW-FM (89.9) was listed as the simulcast radio station. The correct simulcast station was KUSC-FM (91.5).
“Prairie Home Companion” also will be broadcast at 9 tonight on Channels 15 and 24. Channel 50 will show it Sunday at 10 p.m.
John Lithgow stars in “Resting Place,” a TV movie about a Southern town’s reluctance to bury a black soldier in a white cemetery. He plays an Army major who is assigned to assist the parents (Morgan Freeman and C. C. H. Pounder) in getting their son buried.
Airing Sunday at 9 p.m. on Channels 2 and 8, “Resting Place” follows the major as he confronts the town’s prejudice and probes the mystery surrounding the soldier’s death.
