River Plunge Kills Driver: A 49-year-old Anaheim man was killed Tuesday when his car struck a bridge abutment near Hanford in Central California, soared 85 feet through the air and crashed into the Kings River, the California Highway Patrol reported. William Powell died when his car went out of control for an unexplained reason along 22nd Avenue about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, Officer Jim Taylor said. Powell’s car was submerged in the river, Taylor added.
